Back stormed Mendon Unity behind the serving of Lainey Brown (4 straight points) and Lanessa Bohan (5 straight) to cut the deficit to 13-12. During both sets of serves, Limestone Walters was its own worst enemy with poor sets, hitting regularly into the net on spike attempts, and serving into the net. With the score tied at 13-13, Unity's Kendra Smith served an ace and Brown's spike ended the scoring and the comeback.

Game 2 -- Mendon Unity took a 2-0 lead and then the flood gates opened. Oakland Lake Crest bowed out at 23-1. Neither team could score in bunches and at no time in either game did one get more than four points ahead of the other, and that happened only once -- when Oakland Lake Crest built an 8-4 lead in the first game.

Game 1 -- Mt. Pulaski chipped away at Oakland Lake Crest's 8-4 lead and eventually tied the game at 10-10 on a spike from Ashley Southerlan. Pulaski's Kyley Wyss hit one long. Mt. Pulaski got the sideout and then Wyss took over serving and both of her blasts from way back of the endline were not returned in three hits for the 16-14 win. Mt. Pulaski's balance countered the front line efforts by the Lake Crest trio of 5-5 Sadie Baird, 5-6 Ashley Dyer and 5-7 Emma Getche.

Game 2 -- Like two heavyweights in the championship bout, Lake Crest and Mt. Pulaski slugged it out in this game -- one in which there were 26 sideouts. Mt. Pulaski took a 6-3 lead with Ellen Foley serving. Trailing 3-2, Foley kept the serve in and Lake Crest kept misfiring on offense. But then the Titans spurted to take a 9-6 lead with 4-10 Hilary Stiff serving. Ellen Foley slammed home a kill for Mt. Pulaski to cut the deficit to 10-9. Lake Crest responded to go ahead 11-9. That set the stage for the Honeybears to run off the last six points of the match. Ellen Foley served for four of them and Ashley Southerlan the final two.
Elkhart vs. Cissna Park
Tiny Elkhart, with a 7-8 grade enrollment of 19, roared into the semifinals with a 15-7, 15-8 win over Cissna Park. The Redbirds, who avenged their only loss of the season with a state series victory over Hartsburg-Emden, now face Mt. Pulaski (20-5) in the second semifinal match Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. Elkhart will take a 26-1 record into that match against a school in the same high school district. They both feed perennial IHSA Class A powerhouse Mt. Pulaski High School. By school district policy they do not schedule each other during the regular season, and this will be their first meeting of the year. Elkhart has a roster of 12 players which includes three fifth graders, two sixth graders and seven seventh graders. After a series of sideouts, Morgan Litterly took over service and brought the Redbirds to nine straight points, five on looping ace serves and three others on well-placed spikes from sixth grader Emma Anderson. Cissna Park closed to within 13-7 before Elkhart got the final two points.

Game 2 -- Picking up where they left off in the first game, the Redbirds of Elkhart rolled to a 5-1 lead behind the serving of Meghan Moore (2 aces) and the spiking of Emma Anderson (two kills for points). Cissna Park got back to an 8-4 deficit and then Elkhart kept plugging away on each turn at service to extend the lead to 14-4. Lauren Bauer served three straight points for Cissna Park when Elkhart's defense got sloppy for the only time in the match. The Wildcats added another point to narrow the margin to 14-8 before Elkhart's Emma Anderson ended it with a cross court spike from the left front. Except for those three points late in the second game, Elkhart displayed precise passing, great shot selection and an uncanny ability to get the ball wherever it went on the Redbirds' side of the net.
Metamora St. Mary's vs. Peoria Limestone Walters
In Game 1, the Falcons of Metamora St. Mary's jumped out to an early 9-3 lead behind the excellent serving of Natalie Marchal and Morgan Obery. A Marchal save brought Metamora close at a 10-13 deficit, but after a side-out Skylar Griggs served out the match, finishing with an ace.

Pulaski, as the Honeybears advance to the Championship match against Peoria Limestone Walters. The Redbirds of Elkhart move to the Consolation match to meet Metamora St. Mary's. Wyss combined with Ashley Southerlan for the Honeybear offense.
Metamora St. Mary's vs. Elkhart
Metamora jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead behind some solid defense and the play of Natalie Marchal at the net. Elkhart came back to tie game 1 at 5-5 thanks to tough serving by Moran Litterly. Jordynn Peters aced a serve to tie the game at 6-6, but that would be the last point the Redbirds would score as St. Mary's defense, coupled with Lyndsay Hawk's 7 service points and Ashley Voudrie's 4 kills at the net, gave game 1 to St. Mary's.

Elkhart grabbed a quick 5-1 lead behind Ellen Olson's serving. The Redbird lead expanded to 9-2 before Natalie Marchal went to work at the net. A Marchal kill gave St. Mary's a side-out. Three consecutive service points by Moran Litterly gave Elkhart a slim 12-10 advantage. St. Mary's responded with a point before Lindsey Durchholz pushed the lead to 14-11. After trading side-outs, Meghan Moore served an ace for point 15.

Congratulations to both teams on an incredible match and season.
Peoria Limestone Walters vs. Mt. Pulaski
Three ace serves gave Peoria Limestone Walters a 3-0 lead. Mt. Pulaski came back but had trouble getting any kills against the Rockets relentless pursuit on defense. Aggressive attacking by Skylar Griggs and Amy Thomason gave Peoria Limestone Walters the 15-10 victory.

Smart setting by Kylie Beckman to Skylar Griggs' aggressive eight match kills helped the Rockets beat powerhouse Mt. Pulaski. Mt. Pulaski's Kyley Wyss had 5 kills in game two, but it was not enough against the Rockets great hustle on defense.

Congratulations to both teams on a fantastic match and season.
