2004 7A State Tournament
Lewistown Central vs. Normal Epiphany
Lewistown Central wins a thriller, 30-29, advancing to Tuesday's 6:00 p.m. semifinal game. Lewistown led 4-1 after the 1st quarter, 16-12 at halftime, and 22-20 after three quarters. Epiphany only shot 37% from the free throw line. Central was led in scoring by Kalie Bainter with 13 points while Carly Norton led Epiphany with 10 points. Epiphany finishes the season with a 23-2 record.
Paris Crestwood vs. Springfield St. Agnes
Springfield St. Agnes jumped out to a 13-2 first quarter lead and never looked back as they easily defeated Paris Crestwood 52-26 in the quarterfinal round. Crestwood bows out of the 7A tournament with a 16-5 record. St. Agnes will advance to Tuesday's semifinal game against Lewistown Central. St. Agnes was led in scoring by Demi VanDerWal with 19 points while Jessica Megginson and Kelsi Frank each chipped in 12 points. Crestwood's leading scorer was Kaitlyn Breeding with 10 points.
Winchester vs. Tonica
Winchester turned in a terrific defensive effort and held Tonica to 12 points en route to a 26-12 7A quarterfinal victory. Winchester will now face the winner of the Colchester West Prairie/Bunker Hill Meisner game in Tuesday's second semifinal contest. Winchester was led in scoring by Shelby Kirbach with 11 points while Tonica was led in scoring by Britnee Wojciechowski who scored 8 of her team's 12 points. Tonica concludes the 2004 season with a record of 19-5 while Winchester's record now stands at 20-3.
Bunker Hill Meissner vs. Colchester West Prairie
Colchester West Prairie staged a valiant comeback but came up just short as Bunker Hill Meisner held on for 23-21 victory Monday night in Divernon. Bunker Hill led 13-6 at halftime but Colchester went on a 12-4 run in the 3rd and 4th quarters to take an 18-17 lead at the 4:25 mark in the 4th quarter. A steal and a layup by Abby Paul with 2:36 remaining in the game gave Bunker Hill the lead again at 19-18. After another Bunker Hill basket increased the score to 21-18, Jillian Biswell of Colchester hit a 3 pointer from the left corner to tie the game at 21 with 1:02 left in the game. The winning basket for Bunker Hill Meisner was made by Alexandra Lovejoy with 18 seconds remaining in the game. A 3 point shot at the buzzer from West Prairie fell just short. West Prairie finishes the season at 15-11 while Bunker Hill advances to the semifinals with a 17-6 record.
Lewistown Central vs. Springfield St. Agnes
St. Agnes scored the game's first 12 points and led 12-3 after the first quarter. Whitney Wilkinson scored on a layup and was fouled and made the free throw with 0:23 left in the first quarter for Lewistown's only points of the quarter. Lewistown cut the deficit to 13-7 before Demi VanDerWal scored St. Agnes' last five points of the quarter on a rebound layup and 3 free throws. VanDerWal led St. Agnes with 10 points at halftimeand Jessica Meggison added four. St. Agnes' pressure defense did not allow Lewistown to score in the last 4:30 of the second quarter. In the second half, the St. Agnes pressure defense held Lewistown to 9 points, with 7 in the 3rd quarter and only two -- on free throws by Bailey Hatfill at the 2:06 mark of the fourth quarter -- in the last six-minute period. Lewistown did not score a field goal in the final 8:45 of the second half. Stacie Young's rebound layup at 2:45 of the 3rd quarter was Lewistown's last basket. St. Agnes's 5-7 Demi VanDerWal dominated when she was in the game in the second half. With her team leading 19-9 at 3:58 to go in the 3rd quarter she picked up her fourth foul. Lewistown cut the deficit to 20-14 with 2:28 to go in the 3rd quarter on a free throw by Kalie Bainter. But with 1:47 left in the 3rd quarter St. Agnes'Madison Murphy fired in a long jumper from the left corner and at 0:04 Sarah Mast hit two free throws to build the lead to 24-14. VanDerWal came back in the game to start the 4th quarter and scored 11 straignt points beginning with a spin layup in the paint at 4:29 and ending with a breakaway layup and free throw to complete a 3-point play at the 1:59 mark. She left the game with 1:45 to go. VanDerWal led St. Agnes in scoring with 22 points on 6 field goals and 10-15 from the free throw line. Jessica Megginson added 6 points for St., Agnes and teammate Sarah Mast added 5. Lewistown was led by Stacie Young's 6 points and Kalie Bainter added 5. St. Agnes takes a record of 19-5 into Thursday night's 7:30 championship game. Lewistown carries a 17-6 mark into the third place game Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
Winchester vs. Bunker Hill Meissner
Bunker Hill Meissner held Winchester scoreless in the first quarter and got layups from Shelbi Ivester at 3:17, Abby Paul at 1:12 and Brooklyn Hlafka at 0:16 to lead 6-0 after the first six minutes. Winchester didn't score until 4:01 remained in the second quarter on a layup and free throw for a three-point play by Danielle Wade. The scoring drought was 7:59 in duration. That cut the deficit to 8-3, but Bunker Hil Meissner got a jumper from the right side at 1:52 by Alexandra Lovejoy and a jumper in the paint from Abby Paul at 0:51 for its 12-4 halftime lead. Paul and Hlafka each scored 4 points to lead Bunker Hill Meissner in first half scoring.






Winchester was shut out in the third quarter, too, but made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter to come from a 16-4 deficit to a 19-17 deficit with 0:13 left before Amy Golike hit two free throws for Bunker Hill Meissner to seal the win. Bunker Hill Meissner scored only one field goal in the second half (a jumper from the circle by Alexandra Lovejoy at the 4:18 mark. Shelby Kirbach led the Winchester rally scoring all 10 of her points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of three-pointers from the left side. Abby Paul led a balanced Bunker Hill Meissner attack with six points, while Amy Goelke, Brooklyn Hlafka and Alexandra Lovejoy each had 4 points. Bunker Hill Meissner takes an 18-6 record against 19-5 Springfield St. Agnes into Thursday night's championship game at 7:30 p.m. Winchester, now 20-4, faces Lewistown Central (17-6) in Thursday's third place game at 6:00 p.m.
Lewistown Central vs. Winchester
Winchester held the early lead in the 1st quarter 14-8. Lewistown Central outscored the Wolverines in the 2nd quarter 10-4 leaving the halftime score 18-18. Shelby Kirbach, of Winchester, lead all scorers from both teams with 9 first half points.






In the second half Lewistown Central outscored Winchester 20-6. Kalie Bainter of Lewistown had 3 breakaway layups in the fourth quarter as the Indiaians started to pull away from the Winchester Wolverines. Kalie Bainter ended the game as the leading scorer with 15 points 11 of those in the fourth quarter. 3rd place winners Lewistown Central ended the season with a 18-6 record. Winchester ended up in 4th place with a record of 20-5.
Springfield St. Agnes vs. Bunker Hill Meissner
In the first half, Springfield St. Agnes jumped to an early 10-0 lead. Bunker Hill's first points came in the second quarter by #52 Abby Paul. Demi VanDerWal #42,of St. Agnes, leads the scorers with 13 of the Aces 15 points. In the second half, with a 2 minutes to play, leading scorer for the game Demi VanDerWal fouled out with 22 points. Abby Paul for Bunker Hill added 10 points in the second half to finish the game with 14 points. This was Bunker Hill Meissner first appearance at the state tournament and they finished the season in second place with a record of 18-7. This is the first 7A state championship for Springfield St. Agnes who finished the season with a record of 20-5.
