Member Schools Can Register For IESA State Cheerleading Tournament Online

Ready. Okay!

Member schools can now register online to participate in the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Cheerleading state series.

Now in its eighth year, the State Cheerleading Tournament has become the fastest growing IESA event. Last December 58 squads performed on the competition stage in the Exhibit Hall at the Peoria Civic Center. That number of entries is expected to increase for the seventh straight year this December. The eighth annual event is scheduled Dec. 13, 2008, in the Exhibit Hall at the Peoria Civic Center.

Member schools may register online from the IESA website home page. To access the registration form, click on Member Center Login, choose your school and provide the school's Password. That will take you to the Membership Dues and Activity Registration section. Scroll down to the Dues and State Cheer Competition link, click on the underlined 2008-09 to access the registration form for this school year and complete the process of registering the school's entries online.

For the eighth year there will be competition in five divisions: Small Team Cheer for squads with 5-12 members, Large Team Cheer for squads with 13-25 members, Small Team Routine for squads with 5-12 members, Medium Team Routine for squads with 13-16 members and Large Team Routine for squads with 17-25 members. The squads are judged and compete against all other squads entered in the respective five events.

In 2008, the champions were Lockport Oak Prairie in the Small Team Routine Division, Jerseyville Illini in the Medium Routine Division, and Orland Hills Bernardin in Large Team Routine Division. Shelbyville Moulton took the Small Team Cheer title and Edwardsville Liberty Jr. High School won the Large Team Cheer championship.

The Hotel Pere Marquette in downtown Peoria, just a block from the Peoria Civic Center, is tournament headquarters and is now accepting room reservations. Other properties in downtown Peoria and throughout the Greater Peoria Area are offering IESA room rates.

Contemporary Visuals has been authorized by IESA to create the official video of the 2008 State Cheerleading Tournament. The Bloomington-based company will have film crews on site to capture all performances and incorporate them into the package. Orders for the official video may be made in advance by calling either (800) 633-1993 or (309) 828-1993. Email address is: contact@cvmedia.tv. Orders also will be taken at the State Tournament.
