    About Good Sportsmanship

Good Sportsmanship is one of the primary purposes of the junior high school interscholastic activities program. All participants in the IESA are responsible for promoting, teaching, enforcing and recognizing the highest standard of sportsmanship. Students, coaches, administrators and fans representing IESA member schools are expected to demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship and respect for others. Sportsmanship is everyone's responsibility.

The IESA and its member schools ask that those attending IESA State Series Events follow the Expectations of Behavior outlined in the Sportsmanship Manual on the IESA website.

Expectations of Behavior of the Spectators

    • Avoid criticism of game officials and sideline coaching which detracts from the performance of the students.
    • A ticket is a privilege to observe the contest and not a license to verbally assault others.
    • Learn the rules of the game, so that you may understand the game and appreciate the effort of the participants.
    • Remember that the school athletic experience is a learning experience for students.
    • Recognize and show appreciation for outstanding play by either team.
