Maddie Gentsch
Bloomington St. Mary's
Principal: Jamie Hartich
My name is Maddie Gentsch, and I am an eighth grader at St. Mary’s School in Bloomington. I’ve gone to St. Mary’s my whole life and the school has given me many opportunities in athletics, academics, and volunteering. My teachers have always motivated me to do my best on every assignment. My coaches have given me lots of their time to help me with sports.
I currently play softball, volleyball, violin, and run track. In the past, I have also cheered and danced. Our softball team co-ops with Epiphany in Normal, and I was happy to be the catcher for our season in the fall. I play violin for the Bloomington-Normal Youth Symphony. In track, my favorite event is the 100 meter hurdles. My main position for volleyball is setter. I have set a lot since 6th grade, and I was co-captain this year. Our volleyball team has done a lot of service projects such as working at the Midwest Food Bank.
Grades are very important too. My classmates have helped push me to never settle for anything less than my best. My teachers and friends are always teaching me new lessons. I love being able to help classmates with things they may not know because they never hesitate to do that for me. They have helped me achieve a 4.0 GPA.
St. Mary’s has taught me how to do everything with the intention to set a good example for others and to learn from those who set an even better example for me.
