Pontiac St. Mary's

Shawn Milhauser

Principal:

Shawn Milhauser of Pontiac St. Mary's School points out in his sportsmanship essay that good sportsmanship isn't limited to school activities. He says it's vital in life, particularly in the workplace. He hopes to get the chance to demonstrate that in his planned career as a sports trainer or physical therapist with a degree from the University of Illinois.

During his junior high career, Shawn has participated in baseball, basketball, cross-country, band, and the solo/ensemble contest.

He mentions a departed friend, 15-year-old Sam who was born with Down Syndrome, as the person he most admires. Shawn and Sam's fathers played basketball together. Shawn mourns the loss of Sam who died New Year's Day. Shawn wants to live his life by virtues Sam effortlessly showed - unconditional love, acceptance of people's differences and an appreciation for each day.
