Game Comments: Our second quarterfinal matchup featured the Saints of Pontiac St. Mary's and the Lady Knights of Ashland A-C Central. Both teams came out firing and A-C Central held a 6-2 lead when Maggie Merwin headed to the free throw line and made both free throws to put her team ahead by 6 points; Rileigh Renncker followed with a jumper in the paint and this prompted a St. Mary's timeout with 3:26 left in the first period. A St. Mary's turnover put Kassidy Kirchner in possession and her jumper in the paint gave A-C Central a 15-2 lead over the Saints. Merwin's 5 points late in the quarter continued the momentum for the Lady Knights and the 1st quarter finished with St. Mary's trailing 20-2. Addison Masching grabbed a defensive rebound and ran the length of the court to put 2 more points on the board for the Saints. Timeout was called with 2:46 left in the half and the Lady Knights held a 16-point lead of 22-6. Cassidy Ringle had a steal and a layup for the Saints as they continued to chip away at their deficit. St. Mary's Maddie Weber was fouled on a drive and sank both free throws to put the Saints just 12 points away as the first half finished with a score of 22-10, A-C Central.

Kirchner had 2 steals and made her breakaway layup to kick off scoring for the second half for the Lady Knights. Emma Crowley began the scoring for St. Mary's with 2 successful free throws with 3:41 remaining in the 3rd quarter, but a long 3-pointer from Kirchner put A-C Central ahead 27-12 and this prompted a Saints timeout. 3rd quarter finished with A-C Central maintaining a 33-13 lead. A Cassidy Ringle steal and layup with 3 minutes remaining kept St. Mary's in the game, but A-C Central continued to build their lead. Bailey Wallbaum sank 2 free throws for the Lady Knights to bring the score to 39-15. Ashland A-C Central came away with the victory with a final score of 41-15.

Congratulations to the St. Mary's Saints as they finished their season with a 15-6 record - A-C Central will continue their quest for a state championship when they take on Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes in the semifinal game at 5:00 pm tonight.
