Game Comments: Tonight's championship game features the Aces of Springfield St. Agnes and the Gillespie Indians. St. Agnes jumped to an early 3-0 lead, but a Grace Bertolino free throw put Gillespie on the score board and it was followed by a Shelby Taylor 3-point play after she was fouled on a layup. Keaton Link's jumper in the paint gave Gillespie an 8-4 lead. With St. Agnes in possession, Jillian Hulcher fed an assist to Naudiyah Rucker-Cook to close the gap. Both teams continued to trade baskets and another assist from Hulcher to Rucker-Cook gave St. Agnes a 12-10 lead to end the 1st quarter. Gillespie's Sydney Bires jumper tied the game 12-12 as the 2nd quarter started, but St. Agnes' Emily Brenneisen's 4 points and a steal quickly bumped St. Agnes to a 5-point lead. The St. Agnes shooting streak continued with 3-pointers from Hulcher and Sofia Lowis; Gillespie called timeout as they trailed 25-14. Gillespie chipped away at the deficit with strong passing and getting the ball into the paint. Gillespie came within 6 until Brenneisen scored another 3 for the Aces and brought the score to 28-19 with 53 seconds remaining in the championship game first half. The Aces kept their momentum going and the first half finished with St. Agnes leading 30-19.

Gillespie took control early scoring 2 points and Hannah Barrett sank 1 of 2 free throws to bring the Indians within 8 points, but the Aces responded with another 3-pointer and a layup extending their lead to 13 points. Shelby Taylor banked a 2 to keep Gillespie in the game; a St. Agnes turnover gave the Indians another shot but the Aces continued to push ahead 41-24 and this prompted a Gillespie timeout. With 32.8 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, St. Agnes kept control of the ball and the quarter ended with a shot made by Lilly Kerr to put the Aces ahead 43-24. With 2:20 left in the championship game, St. Agnes held a steady lead of 49-24; the final score of the game was 51-24, St. Agnes.

Congratulations to both teams on a great season. Gillespie finished the season at 25 wins and 3 losses. St. Agnes completed their championship season with a record of 27 wins and zero losses to finish undefeated.
