This is Champaign Franklin's third appearance at the 8AA State Tournament and their first State Championship. Coach Todd Anderson and the Knights finish the year 23-2.

Champaign Franklin beat Morton Junior High for the championship, 55-54 in double overtime, when Verdell Jones, Jr. made an incredible three-quarter court shot at the buzzer that was captured on video and was played on ESPN Sports Center. Video of that amazing sequence of events can be seen at here.
