Game Comments: Washington Middle School remained undefeated and handed the Teutolpolis Wooden Shoes their first loss of the season Saturday night with a 35-32 victory in the first semifinal game of the 3A finals. The Panthers willnor take their 24-0 record into Thursday's championship game while Teutopolis will play for third place. The game was close throughout and with 2:00 remaining, washington held a 33-28 lead. Jared Waldhoff from Teutopolis scored ona rebound basket with 1:14 remaining and was fouled to pull the Wooden Shoes to within three at 33-30. He missed the free throw. On the ensuing play, Troy Adams made a great pass to Brad Kuchenbecker for a layup and the Panthers were up five at 35-30. Teutopolis came right back and with :46 remaining, Kyle Pruemer made a five footer in the lane to close the gap to 35-32. As it turned out, those were the last points either team scored. Washington was called for a travel violation with :35 left and Teutopolis missed a little 10 foot shot on the right side of the basket that would have closed the gap to 1. Washington ran out the clock to secure the victory.
