Game Comments: A close game throughout the first half sends the Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis into the locker room at halftime with an 18-15 lead over the Pleasant Plains Redbirds. The scored was tied at 8 after one stanza, and t-Town scored the first four points of the second quarter to take a 12-8 lead. Anthony Venturini of Pleasant Plains nailed a 3 point goal to bring the Redbirds within one at 12-11. Teutopolis answered that with a bucket of its own at take a 14-11 lead and when center Kyle Preumer made an acrobatic layup with 2:10 remaining in the half, the Wooden Shoes had a 16-11 lead. Venturini made two free throws to cut the lead to three and then Michael Cameron scored on a driving layup to bring Plains withon one at 16-15. However, T-town scored a lay-up on a turnover and when Plains missed two three pointers before the end of the half, T-town had its three point lead at the half. A close third quarter where Plains outscored T-Town by 2, brought the Redbirds to within one with one quarter remaining. The Wooden Shoes scored the first four points of the final quarter to jump to a 28-23 lead. Steve Rush for Plains scored a bucket with 3:25 remaining to pull the Redbirds within 3 at 28-25. Preumer missed two free throws at the 3:17 mark but Tyler Windell got the rebound on the second miss. However, after T-Town's Chase Wendling missed a shot from the left side both teams went on a scoring drought. Venturini missed a three point attempt and the rebound came to a Plains player who missed a point blank layup. Finally, at the 1:40 mark, Justin Yakel made a shot from the left side to bring Plains within one at 28-27. When Windell scored a bucket with :57 remaining, T-Town had a 30-27 lead. Perhaps the biggest basket of the game came with :38 on the clock when Michael Cameron drained a long 3 poiner to knot the score at 30. The final seconds in regulation were frantic. Plains had the ball and they were holding for the last shot when Windell stripped a Plains player of the ball. When Windell threw thew the ball to a teammate, Yakel immediately stole the ball only to throw it out-of-bounds and give the ball back to T-Town with :3.5 remaining. T-town threw the ball the length of the court and after a brief scramble, the ball went out of bounds and was awarded to Plains with :1.9 left. Plains simply inbounded the ball and let the clock run out to send the game into overtime. Both teams traded baskets in the overtime and Windell hit a 15 footer from the right side to give T-Town the lead 34-32 with :56 left. Cameron then duplicated his earlier three pointer when he nailed a huge 3 with 35 seconds to go giving the Redbirds a 35-34 lead. Teutopolis then turned the ball over on a travel and with :14.3 left, Venturini went to the line for a one and bonus. He missed the front end and T-Town grabbed the rebound. On the outlet pass, Yakel stole the ball on a heads-up play. T-Town fouled Cameron with :6.9 on the clock. Cameron knocked home both free throws to give the Redbirds a 37-34 lead. T-Town inbounded the ball and Derek Smith had a great look at a three point shot to send the game into a 2nd OT. His shot rimmed the basket but didn't go in and Pleasant Plains secured a hard-fought victory in a well-played contest, 37-34, and move into the semifinals.
