Alyssa Reed

Principal: Mr. Kyle Shay

For her commitment to community service, academics, and interscholastic activities, Alyssa Reed has been selected as the Scholar Attitude Award winner for Board of Directors Division L.

Through band and basketball, Alyssa has learned leadership skills and the importance of teamwork and compassion. In band she’s learned the importance of practice and self-discipline, and through basketball, Alyssa has accepted the challenge of leading the team as captain in both seventh and eighth grades. “Interscholastic activities have helped me to become a more positive individual.” She says sportsmanship and a positive attitude are two important reasons why interscholastic activities are so important for the development of today’s youth.

Her compassion for others is evident through her participation in Christmas for Kids, a program started by Alyssa’s cousin to benefit less fortunate children in their community. Alyssa enjoys picking out presents for the children. “Getting to deliver the presents and see how happy we have made them makes me feel truly blessed,” she says. She says taking part in this program is her proudest achievement.

Alyssa maintains a high grade point average and has been selected to the National Junior Honor Society. She’s so committed to education she plans to attend the University of Illinois to become a teacher. “Helping in my mother’s daycare, I have found a love and enjoyment of watching children grow and develop,” she says. “As a teacher, I want to inspire children to be the best versions of who they can be and help in building leaders of tomorrow.”
