Gabe Huddleston

Gabe Huddleston

Danville Schlarman

Principal: Mrs. Gail Lewis

Gabe Huddleston's strength, fighting spirit, and commitment to his academic and athletic responsibilities are just some of the various reasons he was selected as the Scholar Attitude Award winner for Board of Directors Division K.

Gabe views everyday as a victory. As a baby, he suffered from various health problems, and was eventually diagnosed with liver cancer. Currently a cancer survivor, Gabe notes, "It was through the struggle for life that I developed a fighting spirit, a spirit that has carried me through now. My beginning, the winning of the battle for life, was the initial realization that I was going to have to fight adversity, to persevere when things get tough, and to commit to reaching my goals."

Gabe has made several goals to be a successful athlete and teammate as he participates in basketball and baseball. The two sports have also allowed him to meet many students he would not have otherwise gotten to know. Equally, Gabe credits interscholastic activities for teaching him time management skills. He notes, "I have sharpened my skills at scheduling time for homework, school activities, family, friends, and chores."

Following high school, Gabe intends to study engineering or business at the university and graduate-school levels. His top-list of schools includes: University of Illinois, Harvard, Yale, or Texas A & M. Gabe enjoys math class and figuring out how things work on a mechanical level. Gabe equally dreams of competing on the college golf team.
