Tyler Barnas, Caroline Dodds sparkle Saturday in State Track Meet

EAST PEORIA -- Two records were set Saturday in the 2010 IESA Class A State Track and Field Meet at Eastside Centre.

Tyler Barnas led Walnut Bureau Valley North to the 8A team title by winning the 110-meter high hurdles in a record time of 14.88 seconds and then ran second leg on the school's winning 4 x 400-meter relay. Walnut Bureau Valley North finished with 36 team points, finishing 9 points ahead of runner-up Aurora Christian at 30. Barnas took the baton in the 4 x 400 on the second leg and moved his team to a lead of 20 meters that was never challenged by the field. The relay won in a time of 3:48.82.

Amanda McClain of Findlay Okaw Valley set the 7A girls record in the 200-meter dash winning in 26.71 seconds. The old mark was 26.85 by Johanna Haywood of Altamont in 2007.

Assumption Central A & M won the 7A girls team title with 33 points, while runner-up Peoria St. Philomena scored 23 points.

Caroline Dodds of Champaign Judah Christian won the 8A girls pole vault at 9-7 and missed three times at 10-0. She did all that while running second leg on the school's winning 4 x 400-meter relay during the pole vault competition. Champaign Judah Christian won the relay in 4:26.98. The school finished third in the team standings with 29 points. Carthage won the 8A girls team title with 48 points.

Rock Falls St. Andrew won the 7A boys team title with 46 points and East St. Louis Jackson was second with 34. Rock Falls St. Andrew had two winners, Nolan McGinn in the 100-meter dash, and Brady Rude in the 200-meter dash, but scored in enough events to take the team title.
