IESA Cheerleading Competition Date Changed for 2009-10 School Year

The date for the 9th annual IESA Cheerleading Competition for the 2009-10 school year has been changed. The competition was originally scheduled for Saturday December 12, 2009. It will now be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010. The site remains the same---the Peoria Civic Center. The date change coincides with the change of the Universal Cheerleaders Association's (UCA) date change of the Midwest National Championships to Sunday, January 24, 2010.

"The change in the cheerleading competition date for the 2009-10 school year will actually help many of our participating schools and will hopefully allow more schools to participate," said Steve Endsley, Executive Director. "The December date conflicted with the first round of our 8th grade girls basketball finals. In addition, that time of the year is already a very busy one. The new date allows our school squads additional practice time which will benefit all participating schools."

Last year there were over 80 performances by a total of 62 schools that participated in the competition. Endsley predicts that number will rise with the date change. For additional information on how to participate in the cheerleading competition, please contact the IESA, 309-829-0114.
