Member Schools Can Register For IESA State Cheerleading Tournament Online

Member schools can now register online to participate in the 2005 Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Cheerleading state series.

Now in its fifth year, the State Cheerleading Tournament has become the fastest growing IESA event. Last December 54 squads performed on the competition stage in the Exhibit Hall at the Peoria Civic Center. That number of entries is expected to increase for the fourth straight year this December. The fifth annual event is scheduled Dec. 10, 2005, in the Exhibit Hall at the Peoria Civic Center.

Member schools may register online from the IESA website home page. To access the registration form, click on Member Center Login and provide the school's User ID and Password. That will take you to the Membership Dues and Activity Registration section. Scroll to the Cheerleading link, click on the underlined 2005-06 to access the registration form for this school year and complete the process of registering the school's entries online.

For the fifth year there will be competition in four divisions: Small Team Cheer, Small Team Routine, Large Team Cheer and Large Team Routine. A small team consists of 1-12 squad members while a large team consists of 13-25 squad members. For the second consecutive year novice competition will be conducted. Squads perform and are evaluated, but they are not in competition with the other novice squads. In the regular competition, the squads are judged and compete against all other squads entered in the respective four events.

In 2004, the champions were Edwardsville Liberty in Large Team Cheer, New Lenox Martino in Large Team Routine, Shelbyville Moulton in Small Team Cheer and Lake Zurich North in Small Team Routine.

The Hotel Pere Marquette in downtown Peoria, just a block from the Peoria Civic Center, is tournament headquarters and is now accepting room reservations. Other properties in downtown Peoria and throughout the Greater Peoria Area are offering IESA room rates.

Contemporary Visuals has been authorized by IESA to create the official DVD of the 2005 State Cheerleading Tournament. The Bloomington-based company will have film crews on site to capture all performances and incorporate them into the package. This will be the first time the IESA Cheerleading state final event will be chronicled on DVD and made available to member schools, parents and fans.
