Match Comments: The Mustangs of Royal Prairieview Ogden took on the Wildcats of Lovejoy in the second quarterfinal match. Both teams started out a little stiff with nerves and traded side-out points. The Wildcats saw great defense from several players diving for balls to keep it alive and kills from #4 Kendra Reed to give them the lead. Royal got several kills early from #11 Peyton Crowe, but then Lovejoy held the Mustangs from running any kind of offense in the first set with their great defense.
In the start of the second set, the Mustangs started with the serving of #10 Rylee Sjuts and were able to get several offensive plays establishing the early lead. #18 Olivia Sorensen stepped up to serve 8 consecutive service points before turning it over to the Wildcats. Lovejoy struggled with their defense in the beginning of the second set and didn’t establish an offense. Down 22-16, #4 Kendra Reed took over the serve and brought Lovejoy back to tie it all at 22 apiece. After a long rally and good passing by both teams, Lovejoy re-took the lead off a net ball, but ended up giving it right back. Then Royal turned the ball back over on a mishit and #10 Aliyah Hill served for the match with a nice drop ball ace.
Congratulations to Royal Prairieview Ogden on a great season. Lovejoy will play Cissna Park in the 1:00 Semi-final match today.
