Match Comments: The Championship match between Peru Parkside and Pleasant Plains was a dog-fight! Both teams put forth tremendous effort keeping plays alive. In the first set, Peru set the pace offensively. Julia Pohar served 11 consecutive points for the Raiders of Peru to keep Pleasant Plains on the defensive. Taylor Gibson (5 kills) and Abby Happ (4 kills) took control of the net for the Raiders. The Cardinals battled back with some aggressive net play of their own. Ali Pankey and C.J. Schmitt both had 3 kills a piece for Pleasant Plains. In the second set, both teams traded points to take it all the way to the edge. It was the net play of both teams that created points on the board. Lauren Spelich (4 kills) and Gibson led the Raiders offensively. On the other side of the net, Pankey (6 kills) and Schmitt (2 blocks and 2 kills) led the Cardinals. Pleasant Plains battled back from a deficit to take the lead. The set ended on a kill from Ashton Dyche for Pleasant Plains. In the final set, Pleasant Plains got out to a quick lead behind the serving of Shelby Craven. The Raiders counter attacked with 6 consecutive serves from Tristan Chapman. At the net, the Raiders were led by Abby Happ (4 kills) and Lauren Spelich (3 kills). The Cardinals turned again to Pankey (3 kills) to lead them offensively. Abby Happ set up the final point by serving an ace at point 24. The Raiders closed out the match.
