Match Comments: The last semi-final of the night was an unbelievable match. The Cardinals of Pleasant Plains met up with the Saints of Bloomington Holy Trinity. Both teams went on the offensive attack early in the match. Sydney Shanks and Elyse Standard both had 3 kills for the Saints in the first set. On the other side of the net, Ali Pankey had 3 kills and Ashton Dyche had 2 kills for the Cardinals in the first set. Pleasant Plains went up in the first set and the Saints turned to some tough serving by Rose O'Malley to bring them back into the set, but it was not enough as Ashton Dyche served out the first set for the Cardinals. In the second set, both teams settled in for a battle and traded points. Rose O'Malley again turned on her serving prowess and pushed the Saints ahead with 7 consecutive service points. The Saints also got help at the net from Standard who had 4 kills in the second set. C.J. Schmitt came alive offensively for the Cardinals in the second set with 3 kills. Shanks clinched the second set victory for the Saints with an ace. Both teams went into the third set with fierce determiniation. The Saints went up early off of 3 aces- 2 from Alyssa Osterbuhr and 1 from Claire Boe. It was the defensive play of the Saints that was outstanding. Rose O'Malley had two key defensive saves that were pivotal for the Saints. But the Cardinals would not give up. Ashton Dyche took control of the Cardinal net with 3 kills. Amber Clouser brought the Cardinals back into the match with 2 aces that turned the momentum. The Cardinals rode that momentum into the final points of the match. Again, the Saints did their best defensively but it was not enough to overcome the pinpoint serving accuracy of the Cardinals.

Congratulations to both teams.

The Saints of Bloomington Holy Trinity will play in the Consolation match on Tuesday. The Cardinals of Pleasant Plains will play in the Championship match on Tuesday.
