Game Comments: The third place game saw the Hilltoppers of Danville Schlarman take on the Knights of Normal Epiphany. Epiphany was first on the boards, but both teams struggled to get into an offensive rhythm going in the first quarter of play. The Hilltoppers had the lead in 2nd quarter with 2 minutes to play on the hard driving play of #10 Tannah Caeder but the Knights pressure defense, a couple of quick points off turnovers and finally getting their lay-ups to drop had the Knights back on top at the half.
In the second half of play the two teams continued to battle back and forth. Schlarman put a double team on #4 Abby Davis for the Knights to disrupt their offense, but Davis managed to get involved with steals on the press and quick lay-up points. #52 Abby Cox and #25 Tinley Juarez both had nice outside jump shots in the closing minute of the third quarter to give Epiphany a 5 point lead.
Late in the fourth quarter the Knights had an 8 point lead, but #10 Caeder drains a three with a little over 1:30 to play to cut the lead to four. Then turnover by the Knights and a driving lay-up by Caeder cut the game to 2 with 1:12 to play. Caeder then ties the game draining two free throws going 9-13 from the line in the game. Another turnover and Caeder takes the lead from the charity strip 36-35 with under a minute to play. Epiphany runs a beautiful play to get Abby Davis the ball on the baseline and she drills a baseline jumper to end the game.
Leading scorer for the game was Tannah Caeder of the Schlarman with 30 points in the game. Abby Davis led the Knights with 16 points. The win gave Normal Epiphany their first 7-1A Third place trophy. Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought game.
