Game Comments: The Indians of Brimfield met the Blackhawks of Hardin-Calhoun in the 8-2A championship game. The start of the game saw championship game jitters from both teams. Brimfield was the first to score, but Hardin-Calhoun quickly answered. From this point the Blackhawks worked their post Grace Baalman who had 7 of her 27 game points in the first quarter. In the second quarter Brimfield whittled away at the lead on the guard play of #3 Kennedy Dura and was able help the Indians to go into the half only down 4 points. After the half, the Blackhawks continued to add to their lead on the post play of the Baalman sisters and entered the fourth quarter with a 12 point lead. The Indians kept of the full court pressure and the Blackhawks seemed to back off a bit on their defense. This was all Maddie Dura needed. She shredded the defense with her ball handling ability and had 15 of her game high 28 points in the fourth quarter. The aggressive play of Brimfield and the costly turnovers by Hardin-Calhoun gave the Indians the window they needed and they cut the lead to 6 with 1:45 to play. Dura drained a three to cut the lead to 3. Another basket by Brimfield and the Blackhawks were only up by one point. A costly turnover had the ball back in the hands of Brimfield and a chance to take the lead with 45 seconds to play. A rebound put back by #24 Caitlin Murphy gave the Indians a 1 point lead at 44-43 and they maintained this lead for the remaining seconds of the game. This is the first 8-2A State Title for the Indians of Brimfield. Congratulations to both teams.
