Game Comments: The Washington Middle School Panthers continued their magical season Tuesday evening with a 29-22 come-from-behind victory over Springfield Franklin. The Panthers used a stifling defense in the second half not allowing any points in the third quarter and only 5 in the final quarter. Washington scored 8 points in the third quarter to take an 18-17 lead into the fourth quarter. Jennica Hipes stole the ball and scored a layup at the 4:40 mark of the 4th quarter to extend the lead to 20-17. It wasn't until there were four minutes and 12 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter before Franklin scored their first points of the second half when Amber Cason knocked home 2 free throws to cut the Washington lead to 20-19. After Hipes made one free throw to put the Panthers back up by two, Cason hit a short jumper for Franklin to tie the game at 21 all. It was all Washington the rest of the way as Abby Clanin, Hannah Julien, Hipes, and Amy Coates combined for the last 8 points of the game for Washington in the final 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Franklin wil play for third place Thursday night while Washington will take their perfect 24-0 record into the championship game against Edwardsville Liberty.
