Game Comments: Holding their opponent to only five points in the final three quarters of the game, Washington Middle School advanced to the semi-finals of the 7AA girls basketball tournament with a 30-14 dismantling of Normal Parkside. After a slow start, the Panthers of Washington Middle School, gained control of the game outscoring Normal Parkside 17-2 in the second quarter to take a 20-11 lead into the locker room at halftime. Hannah Julien led the charge in the second quarter scoring 13 points in the quarter. Washington scored the first points of the game when Amy Coates hit a 3 pt. field goal but then the Panthers were held scoreless the rest of the quarter. When Alexia Taylor hit a 3 pt. shot at the buzzer to end the first quarter, Parkside led 9-3. However, the lead was short-lived as Washington and Julien went to work outscoring the Pythons 17-2 in the second quarter. Washington only managed one field goal in the third quarter but they still increased their lead by one. The first points of the third quarter came on a free throw by Parkside's Ashley Beverage with 46 seconds remaining but the Panthers countered when Miranda Ziemba hit a 15 ft. shot with 20 seconds left in the stanza. Julien added 3 points in the fourth quarter to lead Washington with 16 points and carry them into the semi-finals on Tuesday evening. Parkside closes out their season with a 20-3 record. |
