Game Comments: Edwardsville Liberty outlasted Shorewood Troy Monday evening, 35-32, in the tournament's first overtime game. Troy staged a furious fourth quarter rally to knot the game at the end of regualtion at 26. With 57 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and Liberty leading 26-21, Sarah Wysock hit the game's only 3 pt. field goal to bring the Trojans within two, 26-24. Then, with only 18 seconds remaining, Morgan Graves made a basket to tie the game at 26 and send it into overtime. Troy took the early lead in the overtime with the first basket and then Liberty countered with one free throw. Stephanie Furr made a basket for Troy to give the Trojans a 30-27 lead but it was the last lead of the night for Troy. Cassie Reed, Nadia Armouti, and Justine Marshall each made baskets for the Panthers, the last one coming with 57 seconds remaining which gave Liberty a 33-30 lead. Troy's Marisa Graves then scored a bucket at the :44 mark to pull Troy within one. Marshall then missed the front end of a one and bonus to give Troy a chance for the lead. A three point attempt was wide and two rebound chances by the Trojans were off the mark. When Liberty finally got the reboubnd, Cassie Reed was fouled and she made both free throws to seal the 35-32 victory. Troy bows out of the tournament with a 20-2 record while Liberty advances to the first semi-final game on Tuesday against Country Club Hills Southwood and will enter the contest with a 17-2 record. |
