Game Comments: In the first quarterfinal match-up of the 7-1A state tournament, the Sharpshooters of Sigel St. Michaels faced off against the Eagles of Gifford. The first half saw both teams pretty evenly matched with a “defense first” mentality. Gifford won the tip, but Sigel St. Michael’s was first on the board with a basket by #15 Mitchell Cornell. Gifford kept it close in the first quarter and took a one point lead into the locker-room at the half. After the half, Gifford came out fired up. They increased their pressure on the Sharpshooters with their press and caused several turnovers that they turned into quick points. They had a 12point lead going into the fourth quarter that they would not relinquish. Leading scorer for the game was #5 Joe Schluler with 16 points. The Eagles also had Jacob Howie in double digits with 11 points. Congratulations to both teams. Gifford will play again at 5:00pm in the first semi-final game of the night.
