Game Comments: The Cavaliers of Normal Kingsley battled the Mustangs of Bolingbrook Jane Addams in the 8-4A title game; which was a rematch of the 2011 7-4A title game. Normal Kingsley settled right into their game plan of controlling the game and playing tough defense and jumped out to a 11-3 lead in the first quarter. Kingsley spread the defense and drove to the basket multiple times throughout the game for easy layups. In the 2nd quarter, Jane Addams shots finally started to drop and Antoine Lock added two threes to help bring the Jane Addams back into the game and cut the lead to 4 points. Both teams came out of their locker rooms in the third quarter fired up. Key steals by Kingsley and heads up play by Joe Hughes took the lead up to 10, but as the quarter progressed Jane Addams was able to cut it back to 8 points on a steal and jumper by Tuf Borland. Hughes had 6 of his game high 18 points in the third quarter. Jane Addams never went away in this game.
The fourth quarter was a battle. Both teams fought hard and Jane Addams cut the lead to three points, but Kingsley did not give up. Josh Robinson for Kingsley drove the lane with a minute to play and dished the ball to Joe Hughes for the lay-up and a 6 point lead. Again the Cavaliers half court press caused problems for the Mustangs and a quick steal and fast break points for the Cavaliers gave them an 8 point lead with 42 seconds to play. Jane Addams stole the ball with 26 seconds and scored a basket, but didn't convert on the free throw and the lead was too much to make up with so little time. This is Jane Addams first 8-4A trophy. This is back to back titles for Normal Kingsley 8th grade team. Congratulations to both teams on an incredible season.
