Game Comments: The third place game matched the Patriots of New Lenox against the Cardinals of East St. Louis Clark. New Lenox jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter, but Clark came firing back in the second quarter. They scored 17 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 9 point lead into the locker room. Aaron Metts had 7 of his 10 points in the quarter. New Lenox was able to cut the lead at the end of the third quarter off a 3 by Marco Pettinato and a quick steal basket by Jon Marotta. But the start of the fourth quarter saw the Cardinals pull away outscoring the Patriots 18-2 in the fourth quarter. Clark was led by Antonio Johnson who had 14 points for the game and went 6-6 from the free throw line. This is New Lenox Liberty's first 8th grade basketball trophy. This was back to back third place trophies for East St. Louis Clark. Congratulations to both teams on a great season. |
